Naxos is famous for its excellent quality dairy products and especially for its cheeses, with Arseniko and Naxos gruyere being the trademarks of Naxos cuisine. In the category of cold cuts, the protagonist is ham, which resembles prosciutto with a more spicy and salty flavor. It is forbidden to leave the island without trying and buying the famous Naxos potatoes for home.<\/p>\n

Among the traditional dishes of Naxos, the most notable are Rosto<\/em> \u2013 pork cooked in a pot with wine and garlic, Kalogeros<\/em> \u2013 Naxian veal with eggplants and cheese, Patoudo<\/em> \u2013 goat or lamb stuffed with cheese, herbs and liver. On the island, you will have the opportunity to taste well-cooked fresh fish and seafood, delicious lobster and shrimp pasta, marinated anchovies and grilled octopus.<\/p>\n

Among the local sweets, the \"melachrino<\/em>\" stands out. It looks a lot like walnut pie, contains citrus and is served with kaimaki ice cream. The island is also famous for its spoon sweets and citrus-based jams.<\/p>\n

However, the trademark of Naxos, the synonymous product of the island,<\/strong> is citrus liqueur<\/a>, which is distilled and bottled on the island. The liqueur comes in yellow, green and white and you will see it on the shelves of every shop in Naxos, as it is one of the most sought-after products for tourists.<\/p>\n
