The weather in Naxos Island

Naxos has a typical Mediterranean climate, with mild and rainy winters, hot and dry summers, but also strong winds. Its climate is significantly influenced by the sea, which regulates the temperature, humidity and frequency of the winds, creating ideal conditions for holidays almost all year round.

During the winter months (November – March), the temperature ranges between 8-16°C, while rainfall is frequent, contributing to the fertility of the Naxos land. The winds during this period are mainly southwesterly, such as the Sirocco, which brings humidity and cloudiness.

In summer (June – August), the temperature can reach or even exceed 35-38°C, but the meltemi offer coolness and make the atmosphere more pleasant. These northerly winds, which blow from late May to October, can reach 8-9 Beaufort, affecting the sea and maritime traffic. The southernmost and western coasts of the island are better protected from the winds, making them ideal for swimming and relaxation.

In spring and autumn (April – May and September – October), the temperature is milder, around 20-25°C, while the weather conditions remain generally stable, with sunshine and little chance of rain. These months are ideal for those who prefer a quieter vacation, without the high temperatures and strong winds of summer.

If you are planning a trip to Naxos, it is a good idea to keep an eye on the weather forecast, especially if you are traveling outside of summer. In spring and autumn, cancellations or delays in ferry routes may occur due to winds, while in summer, despite the high temperatures, the meltemi ensures pleasant conditions for exploring, sights & activities on the island.
